RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2009This year we constructed "Canarias - View of Paradise" designed by James Wong and David Cubero. James regularly features on BBC programmes following the success of his own programme "Grow Your Own Drugs" on BBC 2. We congratulate all our team and all other contributors to the garden which was awarded an RHS Silver Medal. Planted exclusively with species native and iconic to the Canary Islands, Archipelago, this 'floating' garden aims to transport visitors to the threatened flora of what many biologists call Europe's Galapagos. The garden is designed to shake off the islands image of a Club 30 destination. It is built on a series of floating terraces and will provide a living showcase of the astonishing botanical and cultural diversity found on this unique island chain. Black lava echoes the regions volcanic heritage. The garden aims to create a modernist interpretation of a courtyard garden on the island one of which was planted by Columbus himself before his voyage to America.
